This is a hybrid opportunity, which will involve home working, and 1-2 days per week in our Bromley Office.

What you'll be doing:

You will be part of our SME Squad and provide actuarial technical expertise, producing insightful analysis and recommendations to the Team Managers & internal partners, to support Reserving, Capital Modelling, Forecasting, Monitoring and associated Business decision making.

Plan, manage and deliver specific broad and/or complex tasks and projects in a pro-active, timely and accurate manner, providing insights and recommendations; lead specialised investigations, produce reports and contribute to the delivery of presentations to internal partners.

Research and build models for specific tasks for reserving or for other uses, ensuring that these use appropriate techniques and data and are effective, efficient, high quality, documented and verifiable.

Carry out reviews and consideration of the outcome of the specific analysis prepared by Analysts; propose reasoned and viable outcomes/results to Category managers.

Identify and present areas where improvements may be made enabling tasks to be completed in a more efficient manner; demonstrate awareness of the teams' requirements to continuously improve modelling and data processes.

Interact effectively with peers in other areas of the business to help communicate the work carried out by Corporate Actuarial, and to build individual knowledge of wider company processes.

Communicate effectively, to peers and team managers, the impact of all work undertaken, particularly in identifying model or data issues and suggest appropriate remedial actions.

Manage the performance and development of Analysts; review work, considering the outcome of the specific task; provide feedback and build opportunities for learning in day to day activities.

Maintain awareness of, and comply on an ongoing basis, with the requirements of relevant professional/legal/regulatory/risk management frameworks, e.g. Technical Actuarial Standards, IPL, SOX, PRAIS, SII & UK GAAP requirements.

Reinforce the culture and core values of Direct Line Group through appropriate behaviours and actions; Build relationships and business network with colleagues in other departments.

Candidate Description

  • Nearly or newly qualified actuary

  • Excellent problem solver who is at ease with independent working

  • Analytically and technically minded

  • Previous reserving and capital modelling experience

  • Programming (SQL, R) and reserving software experience is desirable
