Job Description
This position is a significant leadership role responsible for determining and procuring optimal levels of Mechanical Handling Equipment (forklift trucks etc) and associated equipment across the entire Asda Logistics Services network. The role manages contracts for all ALS MHE and equipment providers with associated reporting. The role holder lead on innovation and automation, rolling out Automated Guided Vehicles (AGV) across the network, increasing efficiency and enhance sustainability credentials through the adoption of new and alternative fuel sources for MHE. The role holder will be accountable for annual budgets in excess of £10M and leading a team of 5.,
Develop and maintain mechanical handling equipment strategy for all sites across all operational networks
Develop models to identify MHE requirements including specification and quantities
Review provider performance to ensure that contractual agreements are delivered
Embrace new technology to drive innovation in the MHE area, both through the introduction of Automated Guided Vehicles and through driving the introduction of alternative fuel strategies
Work with operational teams, the Capacity Team and providers to identify cost saving opportunities within all operational networks - Food, Non Food, Dot.com, Parcels - and develop solutions to implement
Engage with SD's and site GM's to ensure requirements are agreed within financial budgets
Procure replacement MHE to ensure no interruption in depot service, including short term hire and peak solutions
Develop equipment strategy to enable compliant depot to store service at lowest cost
Review and revise the MHE and AGV strategy as you trial and pilot new technology ensuring we have the most appropriate kit available in our depots.
Ensure all MHE remains safe and compliant with all relevant legislation
Candidate Description
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the following attributes
Ability to identify and implement innovative and flexible solutions
Have a good knowledge of site operations across all networks
The ability to build and maintain an extensive network of peers and contacts including at ALS Board level
Demonstrate effective influencing ,engagement and stakeholder management at all levels in sites, centrally, across the business and with third party suppliers, building strong productive relationships
Achieve results through inspiring, motivating and leading a team of Development and Implementation analysts in the fields of MHE and AGV - guiding them into developing new, efficient, sustainable equipment
Have strong commercial understanding and the ability to influence and negotiate at a high levels across the business and with third party suppliers.
Work with a high degree of autonomy as you set and deliver your strategy and have freedom to define your own plan using your judgement to achieve success
You will have the ability to interpret, develop and execute strategic plans and think ahead
You will be able to deal with high levels of change and demonstrate the flexibility and confidence to adapt plans
Experience
A proven ability to identify problems and provide innovative solutions
You will have previous experience of managing a large budget
A proven ability in successfully managing contracts with key strategic suppliers
