Working on the pre-contract commercial team and reporting to the head of pre-contract commercial, the managing quantity surveyor will be responsible for ensuring subcontracts are awarded in line with the Balfour Beatty Group Minimum Commercial Expectations, they pass an appropriate level of risk from the main contract to the subcontractor and they incentive the subcontractor to meet the goals of the project.

Working with the procurement team, the managing quantity surveyor will also ensure that the tenders remain competitive and are fully equalised. Commercial advice and overseeing to less experienced team members from a non-commercial background will be required.

There will be a requirement to liase with the project head of legal to agree non-standard subcontract concerns and to make proposals to both the BBV senior leadership team and the client regarding subcontract awards where required.

The managing quantity surveyor will be expected to manage the opportunity and risk management to promote and deliver a risk management culture into the delivery and management teams. Maximise the use of appropriate tools and techniques enabling BBV to lead in opportunity and risk management.

The managing quantity surveyor will be responsible for initiating and leading tasks and processes, taking responsibility and being accountable, where relevant, for the work and roles of others whilst exercising broad autonomy and judgement within broad parameters in their area of responsibility.
