We have a current opportunity for a Maintenance operative on a permanent basis.

Job Purpose The Fabric Maintenance Tradesman shall work within the Maintenance Team reporting to the Fabric Manager. The Fabric Maintenance Tradesman shall be technically qualified in a trade discipline (carpentry, painting & decoration, light construction, plastering) and experienced in performing operational and maintenance duties in large building complexes.

Main Responsibilities

  • The Fabric Maintenance Tradesman shall work a dayshift pattern. Monday to Friday 07.00 to 15.00 or (12.00 to 20.00 1 in 6 rotation).

  • The Fabric Maintenance Tradesman will be expected to undertake overtime duties as required.

  • Support in house projects if required.

  • Carrying out fabric maintenance both reactive and planned on a range of equipment including fire door inspection and repair, painting, decorating, carpentry, minor building repairs, roof, gutters and drain inspections and repair, minor plumbing works such as unblocking drains and toilets.

  • The post holder should have knowledge of the current building regulations.

  • Responding in a 'hands-on' capacity to fabric failures and undertaking remedial action in the field.

  • Completing and recording PPM tasks.

  • Carrying out routine inspections of internal and external building fabric.

  • The post holder must at all times carry out their responsibilities with due regard to the University's Equal Opportunities Statement.

  • The post holder must respect the confidentiality of data stored electronically and by other means in line with the Data Protection Act.

    Appropriate City and Guilds Certificate and/or Craft Apprenticeship. Must be able to demonstrate a range of skills and experience to satisfy the role requirements.(Carpentry, light construction, building)
