The CODAS & IT Department is responsible for the design, implementation, testing, operation, and maintenance of the UKAEA's site-wide IT infrastructure and systems. The successful candidate will be attached to the Remote Handling Operations (RH Ops) Team within the RACE department which is responsible for all the remote handling operations supporting the operation of Joint European Torus (JET). You will: · Be responsible for the implementation and support of RH Operations Team IT systems that form a part of the wider UKAEA IT infrastructure. This is a hands-on role, working with the RH operations and engineering teams and the CODAS &IT department, that requires a combination of excellent technical skills alongside effective communication and project management skills. · Act as the point of contact between the CODAS & IT Department and RH Operations team ensuring that there is effective communication and liaison between the teams to deliver the highest levels of service in support of ongoing and planned Operations. · Ensure that all IT related issues identified are appropriately logged, prioritised, and resolved (either within RH Operations or by CODAS & IT) or escalated where necessary. · Work very closely with the CODAS & IT teams to support, plan, and implement changes impacting the RH operations. · Act as the IT technical lead for the RH Operations team, ensuring that the software and systems which support their operations are available, robust, reliable, and secure. · Support the Remote Handling Systems engineering teams to design, document, plan and update the complex systems upon which their operations rely. These systems are a heterogenous combination of COTS hardware and software and bespoke systems which manage and control, the complex robotics and supporting systems that are at the heart of remote handling operations. · Implement and support a wide range of Microsoft technologies adhering to Microsoft and industry best practices and standards. - provide support for Microsoft systems, based on Windows Server and including Microsoft SQL Server including physical servers hosted on-premises, cloud services hosted in Microsoft Azure, and Microsoft Office 365 services.
- Ensure Microsoft services are secure by ensuring Windows Updates are kept up to date and backups are monitored. You will work closely with the RH Operations and CODAS & IT teams to ensure that updates are planned and managed such that they do not impact remote handling operations
- Be Creating, updating, and checking the validity and accuracy of documentation and procedures used within the team and by the end users. Working alongside CODAS & IT to develop, document and implement best practice management and network policies for RH Operations.
- Be Supporting the RH Engineering Teams to design, implement, test, and operate upgrades and/or new software and systems.
- Be Assisting in managing regular backup operations and verifying their completion, ensuring all required file systems and system data are successfully backed up to the appropriate locations.
- Be Responding to service incidents within the times specified in any Service Level Agreement (SLA) in the ITSM system. Liaising with CODAS & IT to ensure that all incidents are resolved in a timely fashion with minimal impact on RH Operations.

Essential - Excellent IT People and Technical skills
- Experience with supporting and managing IT infrastructure, including the deployment and configuration( Installing, configuring, testing, troubleshooting and maintaining) of services on on-premises and cloud environments, operating systems, application software and use of system monitoring and management tools.
- Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Windows operating systems(Server and Client environments) and applications, including Hyper-V and Microsoft Azure, Active Directory and Office 365 services (Exchange online, End point manager, Sharepoint, MSTeams)
- A working knowledge of network technologies (DHCP, DNS, firewalls, security)
- Good planning and organisational skills: Experience of successfully maintaining control of, Able to manage shifting priorities and progress of a high number of concurrent tasks and line management requests.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills to be able to work effectively with both technical (IT and non-IT specialists), and non-technical staff at all levels within the organisation.
- A methodical and structured approach to project work - thorough, with very good attention to detail.

Desirable - Experience of Operations Support in a technical environment
- Experience in IT Service Management preferably ITIL accredited (or equivalent experience) to enable efficient handling of incidents, routing of requests for information, approvals, escalations, peer input etc
- Experience of working with PLCs (e.g. TwinCAT), safety systems (e.g. Pilz) and data capture and logging systems.
- A working knowledge of PowerShell and other scripting languages.
- Experience of working in support of high intensity science/engineering operations.
- Experience of Linux system configuration and management.
- Experience with configuration and management of network hardware (e.g. Juniper, HPE).
- Experience of planning, implementing and managing software and hardware upgrades to operational systems.
- Certifications in Microsoft O365 and/or Azure is a plus
