Internal Communications Co-ordinator

UKAEA is leading the drive to put fusion energy on the grid, to give the world a new form of long-term, sustainable low-carbon electricity. At their sites at Culham, Oxfordshire and Rotherham, South Yorkshire, they have a rapidly growing workforce to fulfil their expanding programme of research, focused on delivering the UK's first fusion prototype power plant by 2040.

Job purpose

To deliver internal communications for STEP, a UKAEA programme that will demonstrate the ability to generate net electricity from fusion.

This role will deliver timely internal communications across the STEP team, ensuring people have the information they need to work effectively on the programme. This communication should build engagement, maintain understanding of strategy, priorities and performance and provide access to additional resources as required.

This role will liaise with the UKAEA central communications team to ensure that organisation-wide mission and goals are communicated effectively across the STEP team. This role will provide advice and guidance to the STEP Programme Executive and Senior Leadership Team to deliver a regular rhythm of internal communications. This will include delivery of existing mechanisms and the development of new ones, as appropriate.

Accountabilities

· Deliver existing internal communications mechanisms and processes to ensure effective communication and engagement to include

o Friday Feed and STEP Homepage

o Monthly team brief

o STEP Nucleus (UKAEA intranet) pages

o Programme Progress slides

· In consultation with the Internal Communications Officer, develop and deliver new mechanisms, especially digital means

· Working with the Internal Communications Officer and the Strategic HR Business Partner, support delivery of employee engagement initiatives and culture initiatives, including the actions associated with the annual engagement survey

· Advise and liaise with STEP Programme Executive and Senior Leadership Team on all matters of internal communication

Essential experience

· Highly IT literate, fluent in Microsoft Office, including Excel and Word

· Excellent writing skills

· Excellent interpersonal skills - ability to build relationships quickly

· Good planning and organisational skills

· Ability to prioritise work and work under pressure

· Be able to work autonomously, with initiative and minimum supervision

· Be flexible and able to work across several projects and in several different teams

Desirable experience

· Formal qualification in communications or PR - either first degree or professional qualifications

· Previous internal communications experience

· Previous experience working in a matrix environment

· Previous experience of Sharepoint

· Demonstrable experience of working in a fast-paced environment

· Demonstrable experience of working in a new and developing organisation
