The Wessex Works Delivery business unit is a project management and delivery organisation with a diverse portfolio of projects covering track, Signalling, electrification, geotechnical, and civil engineering disciplines.

The Works Delivery business unit has experienced large growth over the previous two years and currently has an annual turnover of circa £163m per annum. To date, Works Delivery has grown organically to meet the needs of its customers however the current size of its order book and its plans for future growth over the next five years necessitates a more structured engineering capability.

The team are now recruiting for Wessex Works Delivery Health, Safety and Environment Advisor role within the project team.

Brief Vacancy Description

The successful individual should be a rail installation experienced person with strong health and safety ethic.
I.T. literate, able to use basic Microsoft software, emails and specified applications (Apps).
Must be willing to work primarily night shifts (2300hrs - 0600hrs) plus some weekends based on 35 hours a week.

COSS/IWA - Good Knowledge of NR/L2/OHS/019 (Safety of people at work on or near the line) and NR/L2/OHS/0044 (Planning and Managing Construction Work) is desirable.

Production of nightly reports on findings able to assist and advise operatives, supervisors and managers on site.

Must be willing to travel around the Wessex area (Works vehicle provided for site visits). Inspecting rail installation sites including Track, E&P, S&T, and Off-Track activities.

Be able to recognise good and bad safety practices and be able to report effectively back to the office with the findings. Be a strong but fair character at times when needing to express safety discussions with the ability to explain the requirements for HSE and Rail compliance.

Detailed External Job Description

1. Provide support, coaching and guidance to the Works Delivery team for issues of workforce health, safety and environment.
2. Provide support to the collation of workforce health, safety and environment data.
3. Monitor and analyse workforce health, safety and environment data for trends, produce reports and make recommendations for corrective actions.
4. Identify health, safety & environmental key risks and make recommendations for control measures.
5. Support the implementation of national and local programmes and initiatives to improve workforce health, safety and environmental control.
6. Facilitate the Works Delivery team in their relationships via local safety forums/groups with Trade Union Safety Representatives and external safety and environmental bodies.
7. Provide guidance to the Works Delivery team in the investigation and reporting of accidents and incidents and the Formal Investigation Process.
8. Facilitate arrangements for safety and environmental audits.
9. Coordinate and monitor safety tours and staff surveillance for the team.
10. Undertake a sample check each period of a safe system of work plans to monitor compliance with the Safe System of Work Planning Arrangements. Take action to address issues as identified.
11. Take an active role in developing the Works Delivery team in matters of workforce health, safety and the environment.

Local Accident & Incident Investigation

Good interpersonal, influencing, communication and organisation skills
A Valid Full UK Driving Licence - with no penalties

National Examination Board in Occupational Safety & Health (NEBOSH) Certificate
