Engineer- High Pressure Gas Metering

Job Description

As an Engineer who specialises in high pressure gas metering, you’ll focus on the design side and compliance for the metering of natural gas provided to, transported within and exported from the national gas transmission network. You'll also be looking into the future requirements for metering of natural gas/hydrogen blends and 100% hydrogen.

Working with system integrators, suppliers, operational staff, key stakeholders and project delivery teams, you’ll provide expert advice on metering systems and how they should be designed, tested and maintained throughout their asset lifecycle. As well as this, you’ll provide ongoing specialist support to operations to maintain the equipment and play a critical role to ensure compliance with the relevant legislations, codes and industry standards.

You'll also be engaging with customers, reviewing their designs and providing technical metering support on new connections to the gas transmission network. Your role will be key in identifying best practice and lessons learned, ensuring these are embedded into future gas transmission projects.

You’ll hold a minimum HNC qualification (or equivalent) in a Chemical Engineering, Physical Sciences or Chemical Science discipline and ideally have a formal development plan in place to achieve incorporated and relevant chartered status.

Chemistry/technical support skills are key for this role, along with knowledge and experience on metering/chromatography and other analytical systems and the supporting instrumentation systems. Ideally, you’ll have some knowledge and experience of the design, construction and maintenance of the types of assets found on gas transmission operational sites.

You can be based anywhere in the UK, however travel and some overnight stays will be involved so you can visit operational sites and attending meetings at our Warwick office.

If this feels like you, take a peek at the perks below:

  • A bonus based on personal and company performance

We are National Gas, including National Gas Transmission and National Gas Metering.

In February 2023 we became a standalone business, to maintain and own the Gas Infrastructure in the UK. But more than that, to develop and grow this infrastructure to set us up for a cleaner energy future. A future of Hydrogen.

This means we are currently in a period of both opportunity and uncertainty. While nobody knows exactly what things will look like in a years’ time, those who join the business now will have a unique opportunity to shape the future of Gas Transmission in the UK.

Business separations take a long time, so you might still see some references to National Grid here and there. This is part of the process, and won’t make any difference to your application.

The closing date is 23rd March 2023, although in some cases I’ll close the ad early.

I’ll respond to every single application.
