Job Description

To deliver an effective jobs brokerage service, apprenticeship support, business support, and skills and training programme ensuring positive experiences and outcomes for both the candidate and employers.

To carry out business development activity, including cold calling, business visits and marketing to build effective business relationships.

To engage unemployed residents and offer Information Advice and Guidance (lAG), support and training programmes tailored to their needs.

To build pathways for residents into employment and training through partnerships with employers, training providers, Job Centre Plus and other agencies

  • Offer a virtual and face to face employment learning and skills offer across the borough

  • Assist residents to benefit from the Work West virtual offer by helping them to access vacancies, CIAG, employment support and assistance to overcome barriers caused by Covid - 19

  • Help residents to apply for local job and apprenticeship opportunities generated by our Employment Learning and Skills Brokers

  • Work with residents to create and develop their CVs, support with job searching and interview preparation,

  • Act as the main point of contact for the team providing customer service to frontline enquiries, and providing information and advice as necessary

  • Support recruitment processes to increase numbers of participants accessing provision available through the project

  • Support residents to apply and secure sustainable employment, including work experience and apprenticeships

  • Support Employment Learning and Skills Brokers with the coordination of recruitment campaigns, job fairs and vacancy screenings

  • Monitor and track referrals, client registrations, client progress and positive job outcomes

  • Assist clients to develop their skills and confidence in order to become independent in learning and employment.

  • Support partnerships already established with Job Centre Plus, The Forge, Hs2, WLA and local partners to support clients' transition into employment or training opportunities.

  • Be willing to be physically based at local job centres, partner agencies and council sites in line with government guidelines relating to social distancing

  • In liaison with the Manager and Employment Learning and Skills Brokers, ensure all safeguarding procedures and processes are robust, continuously reviewed and evaluated. Ensure DBSs are up to date and complete in accordance with Safeguarding Policy.

  • To adhere to and promote the council's Equal Opportunities Policy in all aspects of the role and service.


  • To attend and contribute to staff meetings.

  • To work co-operatively and maintain professional links with other involved professional staff and outside agencies

  • Support colleagues on specialist support needs.


  • To be familiar with and act in accordance with the code of practice, health, safety and fire regulations, and the centre structure and polices.

  • To attend meetings, liaise with partners, agencies and council departments, and participate in working parties as required

Candidate Description

  • Understanding and experience of providing IAG, employment support for people who are unemployed, low skilled and low paid

  • A track record of working in employment and skills or delivering employment support programmes supporting people into work

  • Ability to maintain detailed records of clients, their progress and positive job outcomes

  • An engaging manner and the ability to converse with, understand, influence, establish and maintain credibility colleagues, partners and council departments

  • Report writing and data presentation skills.

  • Ability to assess and review the training and employment needs of unemployed residents

  • Ability to use computer packages such as Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint to prepare documents and reports

  • Literate and numerate, with excellent communication skills in all mediums, conversing at all levels competently and effectively
